indeed it was an unforgettable evening at RVCE .... to think that we might've missed it all if the college buses had'nt been delayed until after the event !!!
well .. a coupla days back .. monday evening to be precise the cultural activities team (CAT) had announced an display of the cultural talent of the students at RV .. most ppl were skeptical about the whole thing n either went off home or just were'nt interested .. since i'd promised a close friend that i would be there to watch her dance n also was curious to see what the CAT team had to offer , having managed to convince a few friends to turn up , we finally settled down at the newly constructed open air amphitheater .. as usual the program was delayed by almost an hour n finally kicked off at 5
and what a program it was !!! never have i seen such enthu in the performers or the audience for that matter !!! :-) the closest atmosphere was at the western music contest at NITK during my second year ... well about the cat nite ... started off with the usual invocation n all ... then came Mr. Rahul Prakash ... my batchmate ... if there was ever a mimicry maestro it is him ... " what happens if Bollywood actors come down to RV" was his gig for solo acting ... n how he performed !!! for a while we really thought that shakti kapoor n SRK were right amongst us !!!
this was followed by some felicitation of the DEB-SOC ( debating society ) n RV-QUIZCORP ( three cheers :-) ) ... then the CARV ppl put up some street play which was pretty good i must admit ... but was waaaayyy too long .... all this while our cat secretary was trying to get the crowd involved all along crooning " vaaat is aarrrveee dooiiinnggg .... raaakkkkiiinnnggg ( rocking ) .. keeepp claaapppiiinnggg " ... lolz ....
THEN IT HAPPENED ... me n suman saw schumi sitting a coupla steps below us ... for the unacquainted schumi is the nickname given to the most karizmaic college bus driver who recognizes only the accelerator n the clutch .... brakes dont hold any significance to this guy ... ask ppl from indiranagar bus who've reached coll in time for their external pracs at 8 30 even tho he turns up at the stop only at 8 !!! 20km in 30 mins !!!
oh yeah ... i'm digressing here ... well .. getting back to the cat-nite .... i suddenly had an idea ... y not get schumi on stage n intro him to all the hostelites present there n just generally felicitate him ? this was when suman suggested y not call all the bus drivers !!! the weirdness of the idea struck both of simultaneously n there was an awkward silence ... finally i decided i'll go ask the CAT-sec for perm . n then we'll call the drivers .... so thats what i did ... went side stage n spoke to NPC about it ... he was like " yakkappa ... y all that ... not needed ... " i told him " sir , it is'nt just me who wants to thank all the drivers .. i'm sure each n every day scholar want to .... it'll take just two mins " finally he relents n gets the green signal from the other cat-sec ( the one who crooned all along remember ? )
this is the oh-so-unforgettable part .... there were four of us ... suman , rufus , adwait n myself ... we had to locate all the bus drivers n convince them to come with us in like 10 mins !!! we roped in a security guard to do some talking n ran off in all directions ... we found some ppl near the armin block gardens .. after a bit of coaxing by suman they agreed n ufus n adwait escorted them to the amphitheater ..
this security fellow ditched us n ran off somewhere ... me n suman were left to find the other drivers !!! i finally spotted them in the darkness near kool korner ( it was 7 30 by this time ) n this time my kannada speaking skills were put to the test ;-) ... dont ask me how but i managed to convince them n both of us urged them to get there asap ...
finally we reach the amphitheater just as that lady is crooning once again " ok stuudaaants ... the 6th semester stuudaants waaant too saaayyy soommeeethhing " ... n pushed the mike towards me ... least prepared i just spoke whatever came straight from me heart ...
" hi ppl !! i'm so n so from cse 6 th sem ... on behalf of all students esp. day scholars n also staff or RVCE i'd like to thank from the bottom of my heart all the bus drivers of RVCE ... who're the sole reason all of us reach college on time everyday .. be it rain or sunshine ... riots or not ... these ppl r there for us !!! so lets hear it for them !!! "
of course the drivers had no clue what the heck i was saying ... but when i pushed a small bouquet into each of their hands ( approx 15 of them ) ... i could clearly see the happiness in their faces ... i'm sure many of u will agree with me that self-less joy is the most pure of all joyous moments ... n right there , the four of us experienced it ... just by making those folks happy ....
finally after everything the buses left coll at 8 n we reached home at 9 30 !!! guess that itself speaks for the commitment of our bus drivers !!! three cheers for them !!! :-)
honestly .... i'll miss the college bus next year ... its like a culture itself ... life in RV-INDIRANAGAR bus :-) ... i'm sure everyone who's travelled by our bus'll whole-heartedly agree ...
n ppl on a more personal note ... i have a small request to make ... everydat around us ... we see these ppl who work so hard to make our lives easier ... most often they go unnoticed ... they play small but highly significant roles .... be it the bus-driver , or the lab attender , or the person who sweeps your streets ... imaging life without them around .... do make it a point to let them know how much u appreciate the fact that they're putting in so much effort ... to make YOUR life better ....
think about it ....

first of all let me admit that i didnt realise that it was such a big event at all and hence didnt attend it.well i heard from my friend too that rahul prakashs mimicry of bollywood stars was really good and also abt the " vaaat is aarrrveee dooiiinnggg .... raaakkkkiiinnnggg ( rocking ) .. keeepp claaapppiiinnggg " ... lolz ....well,it was a really heart warming decisin u guys took to 'honour' the bus drivers for their service.
it is good to know that u r recognised no matter what job u do,as it makes a difference in some other persons life in some way or the other.its a simple gesture like this that touches lives(like in munnabhai MBBS where sanjay dutt hugs the sweeper n thanks him for the job he does).

P.S:nice to note the change of heading of ur blog site...
nicely expressed dude....i could re-live the whole experience once again...wish more of our batch mates were tho....
"i'm sure many of u will agree with me that self-less joy is the most pure of all joyous moments "
You did it because YOU wanted to thank them for driving YOU daily and thanking them gave YOU some joy..
Where is it selfless joy?
@ anony ... may i know ur identity ?
what i meant was ... i felt happy by making someone else happy ... what have i gained out of it ? apart from seeing the satisfaction on their faces ?
i'm clarifying this only cuz a few ppl think that it was some kinda publicity stunt i pulled !!! i mean come on !!!
i have absolutely no need to generate publicity or throw my weight around ... yes I wanted to thank the bus drivers from the bottom of MY heart ... at the same time i knew that there were hazaar others who felt the same way as i did !!!
I have no regrets for what I did ... n will gladly do it again if given a chance ...
Well...Havent attended it,I cant say anything abt the CAT nite, all thanks to my lab ints which got postponed finally....But I appreciate the fact that U ppl felicitated the bus drivers.Be it Schumi or Guggu, they do their job sincerely.Well done guys, really proud that we Indiranagar bus ppl have done somethin to bring a smile on their face. And Yes,I will sadly miss the College Bus next year...But this is what is life, isn't it??
