A Tribute to a Visionary .....

Ladies n gentlemen,

I feel deeply saddened today. Not due to a personal sorrow, or that of my friend's ... it is because of the tragic circumstances of Mr. Pramod Mahajan's death. Today we , as a nation , ought to stand up , and observe two mins of silence as a mark of respect for his departed soul.

Why the heck must I bereave the death of just another politician, u may scream ... fair enough ... Let me try to tell u y ... Obviously , I do not know this man personally ... but from what I have seen, and what I remember reading about him in the papers over the past 10 years (and they don’t exactly mince their words), I have NEVER seen him involve himself in ANY controversies. Isn't that reason enough considering the present political situation across every state and the centre itself?

Just goes to show that in the midst of attention seeking, corrupt, mean minded politicians ( a fruitless exercise attempting to name some ) there do exist these individuals who choose to stay away from the muck and thus ensure that the profession of politics does retain some of its image and charm. For Mr. Mahajan, apparently was a great visionary and a very charming man, who always seemed to have this aura of honesty n sincerity around him.

Having done some research on his life, I have gathered the following info, which I’d like to share with u ... hope it gives u a brief insight into his illustrious career. He first entered the realm of politics by joining the RSS in the 1970s. Soon after, Vajpayee noticed his excellent oratory skills and his political rise had already begun. In the 1980's he became the mouthpiece of the BJP and vociferously campaigned for the BJP inspite of the gigantic majority enjoyed by the congress at the time. His managerial skills lead to a partnership between the Shiv Sena and the BJP and this coalition won the elections in Maharashtra. He never looked back after that. Following this was an amazing career, which inspite of various coalition govts sprouting and crumbling around him only strengthened his position. He had assumed a plethora of offices ranging from IT minister, defense minister to water resources minister.

I cant put it better than this quote about him " irrespective of the political situation, Mahajan's charm never diminished, his flamboyance was never stymied. "

In spite of the BJP's decreasing popularity Mr. Mahajan was least affected. He remained the organiser, the showman, and the eloquent orator who could disarm the harshest of critics. It will indeed be an immensely formidable task for the BJP to pick another person to fill the chasm left by the tragic demise of Mr. Pramod Mahajan.

Another super long blog, I do realize, and apologise for that.

But before I sign off, I’d like to re-iterate what I said in the beginning.... have u EVER seen/heard of a politician who has NEVER involved himself in ANY controversies whatsoever?

Sir, I bow to you. Praying for your soul to rest in peace....

Regds,
Abhishek.

I FELT AN UPDATE WAS WARRANTED CUZ OF THE FEEDBACK I RECD .. SO HERE GOES

yup i'm aware of the controversies u've mentioned ... i think u'll agree that all the above were accusations that have never been proved ... i really dont care if he favoured reliance ... so what ? i mean even if he did , so long as he continued doing good work in all other fields , at the end of the day thats all that matters .. of course , i agree , this view will not be shared by the chairman of tata indicom ...

as far as shivani bhatnagar's case is concerned i ( and i'm sure this holds sure for most others ) have no clue of the actual facts .. n more importantly do not wish to take up some unconfirmed controversy ( which could have quite easily been an attempt to mailgn his image for all we know ) especialy after his demise ...

i dunno about arun shourie ... but even our own PM is not above all doubt ... how many of u know that the congress party in assam had cleverly manipulated n interpreted the laws as it suited them to ensure that he was elected for the first time as an MP ?

but at the end of it all ... the point i'm trying to make is this ... granted that no one is perfect .. even in the midst of politicians for whom corruption is a way of life , we find these ppl who stand out ... ok , even they might have some drawbacks , granted .. but no one can deny that THESE ARE THE PPL WHO GIVE US HOPE ... that all is INDEED not lost ... that there are ppl out there who fight for the utopian ideals of upliftment of the downtrodden , and the who actually care about the welfare of their electorate , and the country in general ...

and this is the hope that keeps us moving forward in life .... say what ?

ps : : this is applicable to everybody who wishes to post a comment here ... please post ur name along with ur comment ... i.e. if u dont have a blogger id ...
thx.

Hi Abhishek!
I am not really sure, but I do remember once Pramod Mahajan was accused of being involved in the rape and murder of a journalist, named Shivani or Shivali,it was way long ago.

hey ...

well what is more absurd is the news taking more interest in the late suryanarayana's love life.

when his second wife came into the scene, follow up on security took backstage.

the news covered more of who is claiming what and who will get what and all that jazz.

what started out as a national security threat transformed into a scene right out of Bold and the beautiful

Mahajan was accused of orchestrating the murder of former Indian Express journalist Shivani Bhatnagar..

he was removed as Communications minister for favouring Reliance and not allowing disinvestment in VSNL....

as for a clean politician the one I know of is Arun Shourie. Even Vajpayee and Manmohan Singh have never been questioned on personal integrity and if you look you will find many more....
